Sonic 1: Color Contrast is an all new ROM hack for the Sega Mega Drive, which introduces an unusual slant to the 1991 title. Similar to how Super Mario World had you hunting out the Switch Palaces to restore missing elements to Dinosaur Land, Sonic 1: Color Contrast tasks you with restoring elements of a quiet black and white world. Elements which of course are missing due to none other than Dr Robotnik.
Through finding six hidden television monitors dotted throughout each level, each and every smash of these items will either restore an element of colour to the environment or a musical instrument to the previously distant arrangements. Although sounding easy at first, many of these restorations are hidden throughout each stage, often requiring certain paths to be taken or perilous jumps to made.
Although its anything but close to Super Mario World's countless secrets and gameplay mysteries, Sonic 1: Color Contrast goes on to display that there is potential in the blue hedgehog for slower paced exploration - something yet another clever ROM hack goes on to showcase.
