""Not too long ago we were made aware of an unofficial modification to Zelda: A Link to the Past where ROM hackers had injected CD quality audio and FMV support. On a similar note, it would now appear that Mega Man X for the Super Nintendo has received a similar update - one where all of the game's music has been enhanced with a charged-mega-busters-worth of rocking melodies.
Replacing all 32 clips from the game's soundtrack, this fan-made project not only brings Mega Man X into a whole new world, but also does the title justice. Featuring punchy replacements for iconic tracks such as the Storm Eagle theme and Central Highway theme, this updated audio patch adds a whole new level of depth and excitement to Capcom's classic.
This all new modification is made possible thanks to the custom Super Nintendo chip MSU-1, an aftermarket solution which allows homebrew developers to make use of MP3 style audio and Full Motion Video on the 16-bit console. As great as it is, the only way to experience these new offerings is either through the SNES emulator Higan, or on the original hardware using an SD2snes flash cartridge.
To enjoy this fan-made alternative to the 1993 platformer, you'll not only need to patch a legally obtained Mega Man X Super Nintendo ROM, but also download the accompanying audiotracks. Full instructions can be found within the patch's readme file.""
